Utah IFTA Decals Delayed

TRALA wishes to inform its members operating vehicles out of Utah that a delay for the issuance of International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) decals in the state has occurred.

This delay has caused confusion for many members and has also resulted in the issuance of citations by roadside enforcement.

Upon learning of these issues, TRALA partnered with the Utah Trucking Association (UTA) to contact the Utah Tax Commission to remedy this situation. TRALA was informed that the issuance delay is a part of an overall printing backlog in the state because the IFTA stickers, along with other decals, are being produced by inmates from the Utah Department of Corrections. At this time, the production line is unable to fulfill the renewal of IFTA licenses prior to February 28, 2023. TRALA, with UTA's help, was able to secure an extension from the Utah State Tax Commission that extends the renewal grace period from December 31, 2022, to March 31, 2023 for vehicles operating under IFTA.

TRALA strongly recommends keeping a copy of the extension letter in each vehicle until the decal delay is resolved.
