Lawrence Chairmanship Incorporates Experience and Vision for TRALA's Future
Alexandria, VA – March 21, 2013 – TRALA celebrated its past and prepared for its future with the election of Steve Lawrence, CEO of Lawrence NationaLease as its Chairman. Lawrence was unanimously elected Chairman at TRALA's 35th Annual Meeting held in Naples, Florida March 11-14. In choosing its leadership for the coming year, TRALA's Board of Directors decided to capitalize on the experience and wisdom of Lawrence, from Red Wing, Minnesota, who helped to found the organization in 1978.
“TRALA's strength comes from its membership. Even though TRALA member companies are often fierce competitors with each other, Steve Lawrence understands the critical importance of being a unified voice when it comes to addressing policy that impacts the entire industry,” said TRALA President and CEO Tom James.
Lawrence's election to Chair TRALA's Board of Directors came at the end of one of TRALA's largest meetings in recent history. The 195 truck renting and leasing companies participating in the organization's 35th Annual Meeting represented the largest turn-out of leasing companies at a TRALA meeting in history. The meeting attracted over 400 attendees in all, making it the best-attended TRALA meeting in the past six years. The NationaLease System, Mack Leasing and Volvo Truck Leasing System and the PacLease System all held meetings of their respective organizations in conjunction with the TRALA meeting.
“A lot has changed in past 35 years, but much has stayed the same as well,” said Lawrence. “The ability for our businesses to compete aggressively and fairly is always under some level of threat by excessive government intervention or ill-thought regulations,” said Lawrence. “That is why we come together as one industry under the TRALA banner.”
TRALA, based in Alexandria, VA, is a voluntary, non-profit national trade association, organized in 1978 to provide a unified and focused voice for the truck renting and leasing industry. TRALA's membership includes more than 500 leasing and rental firms and 100 suppliers that make up nearly the entire truck renting and leasing industry. The renting and leasing industry is annually responsible for approximately 35 to 40 percent of all new Class 3 through 8 commercial truck registrations.
