TRALA Optimistic for Progress With New Congress
Truck Renting and Leasing Association (TRALA) President and CEO Tom James issued the following statement in reaction to the results of Tuesday's mid-term elections:
"The results of yesterday's mid-term elections provide a great opportunity for a fresh start for our nation's leaders next year. With many new faces in the House of Representatives, and the significant shift in the political makeup of the Senate, hopefully compromise will start to take the place of gridlock in the U.S. Congress.
TRALA's priorities in the next Congress will center around the need to nurture and strengthen the fragile economic recovery now underway. These priorities include comprehensive and effective tax reform that encourages job creation and business growth. TRALA members are key private-sector players in the economic recovery through annually purchasing up to 40% of all new trucks classes 3 through 8 put into commercial service every year. It is critical that the U.S. tax code and the federal regulatory structure also recognize the important economic role of capital intensive industries like truck renting and leasing.
A well-funded long-term federal highway bill is also necessary for effective infrastructure repair and development. TRALA members are putting the newest, safest, cleanest and most technologically advanced trucks into commercial service. It is time that the Congress and the Administration work together to provide the funding and advance planning capability that comes with a long-term highway bill.
TRALA very much appreciates the hard work of groups like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce who successfully recruited and supported electable pro-business candidates across the country. Yesterday, Americans voted for business. Now it is time for those newly elected lawmakers to work with their colleagues and support responsible pro-growth policies that will benefit both businesses and consumers throughout the United States."
