The Truck Renting and Leasing Association (TRALA) and several of its allies are working together to fight new District of Columbia legislation, the Sustainable DC Omnibus Act of 2013. This legislation is designed to improve the health of D.C. residents by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and would not allow diesel-powered commercial vehicles to be registered in DC unless the vehicle had previously been registered in D.C., effective January 1, 2018. Carrier Transicold has unveiled a new optional engine emissions system (EES) which is capable of reducing diesel particulate mass from trailer refrigeration unit exhaust by more than 98 percent. The EES has received conditional verification from the California Air Resources Board (CARB). FULL STORY

Penske Truck Leasing is a recipient of the 2013 National Excellence in Training Award by the Automotive Training Managers Council (ATMC).  Penske Truck Leasing is one of seven companies to earn the honor. . .Dana Holding Corporation has finalized plans to open its 16th global technology center in Cedar Park, Texas. The center is designed to accommodate more than 80 engineers and support staff as part of an effort to fully leverage Dana's investment in its strategic relationship with Fallbrook Technologies, which is headquartered nearby. . .Michelin North America Inc. marked the opening of its newest manufacturing facility in South Carolina on December 12.  The project completion is the fastest greenfield construction in Michelin's history. . .Carrier Transicold is commemorating the 25th anniversary of its U.S. manufacturing facility in Athens, GA, where truck and trailer refrigeration units are manufactured. . .The Center for Transportation Safety, a PHH Arval Company, is now offering its curriculum to the public through its CTS Driving Academy in Colorado. . .Continental has announced plans to expand its truck and bus tire production facilities in Otrokovice (Czech Republic), with a total investment of 165 million euros in five years. . . Thermo King's TriPac Evolution now offers 2,000 hour maintenance interval.  The extended maintenance interval reduces the cost of ownership, aligns with tractor maintenance cycles and reduces environmental  impact by lower waste. . .Volvo Truck North America is constructing a road course and vocational track at its New River Valley Truck Plant, where customers can put new vehicles through their paces with or without a commercial driver's license (CDL). . .Maxim Truck and Trailer held its annual charity Pancake Breakfast in support of the Christmas Cheer Board of Winnipeg.  This is the 13th year the company held the fundraiser, amassing over $8,900 in donations for the Christmas Cheer Board, an organization that assists the working poor and families receiving provincial assistance. . .Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is supporting the Toys for Tots campaign at the Carson Blimp Base in Gardena, CA, by offering a chance to win a flight for five aboard the Spirit of America. No donation is required for entering the drawing, but guests are urged to bring a new, unwrapped toy as a gift to help make Christmas possible for a needy child.
