TRALA FILES NEW ELD PETITION WITH FMCSA

On January 19,  2018  the Truck Renting and Leasing Association (TRALA) filed a new exemption petition with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The petition requests an exemption for rental trucks from the agency's Electronic Logging Device Mandate (ELD). TRALA decided to proceed with its exemption request after a call with its Government Relations Committee on January 11,  2018  where it was decided that additional time was needed for TRALA members to fully become compliant with the ELD Mandate and meet the needs of its customers. In its petition, TRALA is requesting that trucks rented for 30-days or less be exempt from the mandate and allowed to use paper logs until December 31, 2018.

FMCSA Grants ELD Waiver for Short-Term Rental Trucks Until April 19, 2018

Today, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) published in the Federal Register the waiver TRALA had requested for short-term rental trucks.  This 90-day waiver from the Electronic Logging Device (ELD) Mandate runs from today until April 19, 2018.  While TRALA was told by the agency that this waiver was coming since December 12, 2017, TRALA had been waiting for the FMCSA to formally post it in the Federal Register so that any driver of a short-term rental truck can simply print out a copy of the notice and carry it in their cab during this time frame.

The provisions related to the expansion of Section 529 accounts and their application towards homeschooling, as well as the use of the phrase "tuition paying" were all struck from the Senate bill. The amended conference report was then sent to the House where the modified bill was approved. President Trump signed the bill into law on December 22, 2017. FULL STORY
