TRALA Announces 2009 Scholarship Recipients

Alexandria, VA - April 6, 2009- The Truck Renting and Leasing Association (TRALA) has named Karson Brooks of Dothan, Alabama, Amanda Lane of Lombard, Illinois and Alexa Le of High Point, North Carolina the TRALA Scholarship recipients for 2009. This year’s recipients will each receive a $5,000 scholarship that is renewable for three more years of college if they maintain full-time enrollment and a minimum 3.0 grade point average. The recipients were announced at TRALA’s 31th Annual Meeting in Carlsbad, California.

The TRALA Scholarship rewards the children of member company employees for outstanding scholastic and personal achievements. “We are very pleased to have the opportunity to assist three exceptional students,” said TRALA President and CEO Peter Vroom. “Close to 90 students applied for this year’s three scholarships, proof that the TRALA Scholarship Program is now the most recognized and generous scholarship program in the trucking industry.”

Karson, the daughter of David Turner, a sales manager of Four Star Leasing and his wife Julie, attends Dothan High School in Dothan, Alabama, where she is valedictorian of her class, a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish club, placed in the regional Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) competition and is the Treasurer of Key Club. In addition to her academic talents, she has been a cheerleader for four years at Dothan High School and was named co-captain her sophomore and senior years. She plans to attend the University of Alabama and major in chemistry.

Amanda, the daughter of Kathy Lane, a rebate administrator of NationaLease and her husband Coy, attends Willowbrook High School in Villa Park, Illinois, where she is valedictorian of her class, a member of the National Honor Society, Quill and Scroll Honor Society, Science Honor Society, National Youth Advisory Cabinet and Editor-in-Chief for two years of Skyline, the student newspaper. In addition to her academic accomplishments, she has been a member of the Cross Country team and both indoor and outdoor Track & Field during all four years of high school. She plans to attend Washington and Lee University and major in biochemistry.

Alexa, the daughter of Lang Le, a senior electronic engineer of Volvo Trucks North America and his wife Phuong, attends the Early College at Gilford in Greensboro, North Carolina, where she is a member of the National Honor Society, the Psychological Research Society, a North Carolina scholar and an AP Scholar with Distinction. Alexa is also a piano player. She plans to attend the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and major in chemistry with the hopes of one day going on to study Pre-Medicine.
