TRALA Announces 2008 Scholarship Recipients
Alexandria, VA - April 3, 2008 - The Truck Renting and Leasing Association (TRALA) has named Kathryn Meyer of Columbus, Indiana and Angela Sheng of Brentwood, Tennessee the TRALA Scholarship recipients for 2008. Meyer and Sheng will each receive a $5,000 scholarship that is renewable for three more years of college if they maintain full-time enrollment and a minimum 3.0 grade point average. The recipients were announced on April 3, 2008 at TRALA’s 30th Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona.
The TRALA Scholarship rewards the children of member company employees for outstanding scholastic and personal achievements. “We are very pleased to have the opportunity to assist two such fine students,” said TRALA President and CEO Peter Vroom. “Close to 200 students applied for this year’s two scholarships, proof that the TRALA Scholarship Program is now the most recognized and generous scholarship program in the trucking industry.”
Meyer, the daughter of Timothy P. Meyer, an employee of Cummins Inc., and his wife Carol, attends Columbus North High School in Columbus, Indiana, where she is a National Merit Finalist, Class Salutatorian, an AP Scholar and a member of the National Merit Society. In addition to her academic talents, her musical talents include membership in the Indiana All State Orchestra and Vocal Jazz group, the 25th St. Singers Jazz Choir, and serving as Concertmaster for the Andrews String and Columbus North High School Orchestra. Meyer is also a member of the International Thespian Society and volunteers with her church on the youth leader team. She plans to attend Wheaton College and major in biology/pre-med.
Sheng, the daughter of John Sheng, also with Cummins Inc., and his wife, Gina, is a student at Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, Tennessee, where she is a National Merit Finalist, has received the school’s Good Citizen Award, and leads the Windows on the World Multicultural Awareness Committee. She has also contemplated an internship with Vanderbilt University in the Biological Sciences Department. Sheng plans to attend Yale University where she will major in biochemistry.

The Truck Renting and Leasing Association, based in Alexandria, Va., is a voluntary, non-profit national trade association, organized in 1978 to provide a unified and focused voice for the truck renting and leasing industry. TRALA's membership includes more than 500 leasing and rental firms and 110 suppliers that make up nearly the entire truck renting and leasing industry. The industry is responsible for over 35 percent of all new class 3 through 8 commercial truck registrations.
