Akhil Patel Named 2012 TRALA Scholarship Recipient

Alexandria, VA – March 30, 2012 – Akhil Patel of Westerville, Ohio, has been awarded a scholarship by the Truck Renting and Leasing Association (TRALA) for 2012. Patel will receive a $5,000 scholarship that is renewable for three more years of college if she maintains full-time enrollment and a minimum 3.0 grade point average. The award was announced at TRALA's 34nd Annual Meeting in Dana Point, California.


The TRALA Scholarship rewards the children of member company employees of the Truck Renting and Leasing Association for outstanding scholastic and personal achievements.  “We are very pleased to have the opportunity to assist students such as Akhil who have demonstrated extraordinary scholastic achievement,” said TRALA President and CEO Tom James.  “Close to 200 students applied for this year's two scholarships, proof that the TRALA Scholarship Program is now the most recognized and generous scholarship program in the trucking industry.”


Patel, the son of Mukesh Patel, a Volvo Trucks North America employee and his wife Jayshree, attends Thomas Worthington High School in Worthington, Ohio, where he received a Diploma of Distinction for science, foreign language and performing arts, National Honors Society member, Spanish National Honors Society member, a member of the soccer team all four years and Varsity MVP and Scholar Athlete in 2011, member of the school jazz band during all four years and a Leadership Worthington Graduate.  He plans to attend the Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island in the fall.

TRALA's membership includes more than 500 leasing and rental firms and 100 suppliers that make up nearly the entire truck renting and leasing industry. The renting and leasing industry is responsible for approximately 35 percent of all new Class 3 through 8 commercial truck registrations.
