First Recipients Named for TRALA's Industry Scholarship Program

Alexandria, VA – October 10, 2012 – The Truck Renting and Leasing Association (TRALA) has named Austin Elsmore and Bradley Lokken as the first recipients of its new Industry Scholarship Program. These recipients will each receive a $2,500 scholarship that is renewable once for a total of $5,000 if they maintain full-time enrollment and a minimum 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. TRALA's Industry Scholarship Program, which was unveiled this year, will annually award up to four $2,500 scholarships to students pursuing a course of study relating to the truck transportation industry at an accredited vocational training school.

“The TRALA Industry Scholarship Program will help to insure that the most promising vocational students have an opportunity to pursue their career study regardless of their financial means. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to help these students and give back to our industry,” said TRALA President and CEO Thomas M. James.

Austin Elsmore, is a full-time apprentice technician at Kenworth Sales of Pocatello, Idaho in the evenings, and is attending Idaho State University full-time during the day with a focus on diesel mechanics and diesel electronics. Elsmore was on the Honor Roll for diesel program for the fall semester 2012. He placed second in the state FAA Arc Welding contest and Small Engines contest. In his free time, Elsmore is interested in truck pulling, working on trucks and snowmobiling.

Bradley, the son of Mark Lokken, an employee of Penske Truck Leasing Co. and his wife Kevan, attends Universal Technical Institute where he is enrolled in the Diesel and Industrial programs.  In addition to his school work, Bradley is interested in rock crawlers, motorcycles and camping.
